Our Beginning

In 2013, The Literate Earth Project opened its first library in Ndejje, Uganda. We took the time to celebrate successes and watch for improvements before expanding. Today, our organization operates libraries across the country where access to books had never existed.

Our Current Libraries

The Literate Earth Project provides books, educational resources, and training to 19 libraries and educational centers across Uganda. By closely partnering with the local community, we ensure the resources being provided are both helpful and utilized.

Enabling Digital Literacy

Very few students we work with have access to the internet, the cost of which is prohibitively high. To help bridge this gap, we’ve partnered with the Raspberry Pi Foundation to provide students with a child-friendly, offline version of Wikipedia, as well as opportunities to learn the skill of digital coding.

Partnering for Impact

We partnered with Pangea Education to bring mobile libraries to the Imvepi Refugee Camp and serve more than 450 children and their families on a weekly basis.
